Out and About

Eating Out

There are a lot of restaurants in the near vicinity, however, we would personally recommend the following ones to stop off for a bite to eat.  They serve local cuisine at varying prices served along with a nice wine.

Golfing in the Area

Scotland is the home of golf and we certainly don’t let you down here. If you are a golfer, you will not be disappointed with the 6 local courses within 10 miles of Westacre Lodge.

There is plenty to offer for the whole family, so we have shared some of our favourites for the littlest ones of the family.  From parks to karting and ten-pin bowling as well as soft play for the little ones.

Crieff has a lot going on in it’s own High Street.  The Crieff Food Company have a lot to offer with their large hall providing different stalls to all their visitors with home-made and local farmers produce.  There is also a sweet shop that was inaugurated in 1925 which is still going strong today.  Pop into Gordan and Durwards for any of your traditional Scottish sweets.

Crieff Monthly Market

Why not visit the local, quaint market that runs through the summer months, normally on the second Saturday of the month. Famous for it’s farmers’ produce such as meat, pickles and jams. There are also several arts and craft stalls to shop from.

Buchanty Spout

Buchanty Spout is a spectacular waterfall and natural salmon leap on the River Almond in Glen Almond, a few miles north of Crieff. Start at the small car park on the B8063 (Grid Reference 933283) near to the waterfall and an old stone bridge. The circuit is equally enjoyable from whatever direction it is tackled but an anticlockwise approach – starting on the minor road near the car park and later re-joining the B8063 – avoids an early hill climb.

Stirling Castle

Steeped in history, this castle was built in the 12th century, with its buildings that stand today erected between 1490 and 1600’s.  This is Scotland’s largest and probably most important castles both in an architectural importance and historically.  You are able to spend the day as if you have been catapulted back in time.

Caithness Glass

Try your hand at making your own glass paperweight or just pop in for an exhibition of glass blowing. Caithness Factory gives a unique insight into this process. You can also paint your own designs on glass and visit the shop on site that homes lots of beautiful glasswear.

Crieff Highland Games

The Gathering is held in the centre of Crieff at the iconic Market Park. There is a full programme of traditional Highland games competitions on offer including The Scottish Heavyweight Championship Running, Youth Running, Cycling, Highland Dancing, Heavyweights, Light Field, and Tug o War. There are also several Piping Performances throughout the day as well as the spine-tingling salute to the Chieftain and the customary Massed Pipe Bands finale.

V & A Museum, Dundee

A not to be missed experience just a short drive from Westacre lodge is this amazing newly designed museum.  Within it’s vast expanse of space inside, there is a permanent display of the history of Scottish design through the ages and another interesting Ocean Liners exhibit.  There is a lovely cafe where you can enjoy a cuppa whilst resting your legs.
